David Chapman-Jones, founder of Tendonology, talks bluntly about tendons, treatments and why they still cause so much debate.
"I am a long way from being convinced of the repeatable success of any procedure that injects any substance into the complex tissue architecture of a tendon. The latest vogue for injecting substances such as platelet rich plasma (PRP), stem cells and even cells taken from a pig bladder I believe are counter productive and may do more damage than harm' . Science can help to improve the understanding of the causes tendon problems in racehorses. However, scientists should be cautious about being prematurely too euphoric about treatment options and 'bamboozling' the layman with technical jargon to sell plausible 'cures'.
